What are Chemical Peels?
Chemical peels are used as a cosmetic skin procedure that helps improve the appearance and texture of skin. Essentially, it’s a deep exfoliant that removes damaged skin cells at the top layer(s) of your skin in order to reveal more supple, smoother skin underneath. Just as its name suggest, the superficial portion of your skin peels off gently in the days following treatment. While this might sound intense, people usually do not feel any discomfort. Instead, they might elect to do this procedure on a Friday or during a time when they do not have to go to work.
Why might you want a chemical peel? There are a variety of skin conditions in which a chemical peel can be beneficial. These include:
Fine lines and wrinkles
Acne scars/general scaring
Sun damage
Hyperpigmentation/uneven skin tone
Rosacea
Melasma
How can you get a chemical peel? It is important to get this done with a medical provider to ensure the product is used safety and correctly. After a consultation, the product is cleanly applied on the skin using an applicator and left on for several minutes. Once removed, you will not notice peeling and results immediately. The peeling starts the next day and over the next 3-7 days. After this period of time is when you notice the smoother skin underneath!
